Historic “Home for the Holidays” Tour – A Walk Through Brazoria’s Past

The holiday season in Brazoria carries a special kind of magic — one woven deeply into the town’s history. This year, the Brazoria Heritage Foundation and the Brazoria Lions Club invite the community to step back in time with the Historic “Home for the Holidays” Tour on November 29, beginning at 5:30 PM, with lineup at 5:00 PM at Masonic Oak Park.
This tour represents more than a festive gathering — it is the continuation of a dream first envisioned by the original Board of Directors of the Brazoria Heritage Foundation. Their mission: to recreate and honor the historic heart of Old Town Brazoria, preserving the stories of the landmarks that shaped the community.
While many of the original structures no longer stand, their monuments and stories remain, and the Foundation has worked diligently over the past year to bring those stories to life in a meaningful, community-centered way.
A Journey Through History
Participants will travel through key sites tied to Brazoria’s past, including:
Masonic Oak Park — site of the signing of the first Masonic Charter in Texas
Home Site of John Austin — an important figure in early Texas history
The Henry O’Tanner Cafeteria Building
The Historic Catholic Cemetery
Jane Long’s Tavern Site
The Brazoria School Academy Site
The Brazoria Courthouse Site, which also served as the location of Dr. Sofia’s practice
The tour concludes at the Brazoria Heritage Museum, where the community will gather for the official lighting of the Christmas decorations, illuminating the grounds with festive cheer.
This lighting tradition began just last year when the Heritage Foundation and Lions Club partnered for the first time to decorate the museum grounds. The success and joy it brought to the community inspired this year’s expanded collaboration and the addition of the full historic tour.
A Celebration for the Community
Mary Ashley Henneberg of the Brazoria Heritage Foundation shared the heart behind the event:
“Bring all your family and friends to see the lights come to life about 6–6:30 after the Historical Tour through Old Town. We do all this for the community — to lift everyone’s spirits even during rough times. To give the experience of holiday spirit and let the community know we appreciate everything they do to help keep the Heritage Foundation and Brazoria Lions Club going.”
This year’s tour blends Brazoria’s rich history with its vibrant holiday spirit, offering residents a meaningful way to celebrate both the past and the present.
Christmas in Brazoria Festival – December 13
The heart of Brazoria’s holiday season arrives with the beloved Christmas in Brazoria Festival, hosted by the Brazoria Chamber of Commerce at the Brazoria Civic Center on Saturday, December 13, from Noon to 4:30 PM.
This annual community celebration features:

As the sun sets, the celebration continues with the Christmas Parade, beginning at 5:30 PM. Residents are encouraged to line the streets and enjoy an evening of glowing floats, and sparkling lights.
This year, parade entries will compete for Chamber Bucks prizes in two categories:
Best Family Float
Best Business/Organization Float
The Chamber encourages everyone to stay for the full holiday experience — shop, eat, cheer, and enjoy the glow of Light Up Brazoria, as the town sparkles to life with Christmas lights and decorated displays.
Whether you’re exploring historic Old Town, visiting with Santa, finding your next furry friend, or watching the parade roll by, Brazoria’s holiday events highlight the warmth and unity that make our town feel like home.
Mark your calendars, gather your family, and join us as Brazoria celebrates the season with joy, tradition, and small-town charm.
